What's good, if region code=0 ?
1. You can share a DVD in England and Australia (in the same TV format countries.)
2. PC does not care about NTSC or PAL, so if you use a PC, you can watch the DVD in U.S.A. too (compatible between different TV formats.)
3. It means, if you use a DVD-ROM Drive on a PC, the DVD can be watched in all countries in the world.
4. If you get a download version, it is MP4 or AVI format.(This is no region code either)

by the way, What's NTSC or PAL?

Mainly, the world's TV broadcating system is divided by two systems, NTSC or PAL. (There's a miner system called SECOM, also.)

NTSC is used in following countries.....

U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Bolivia Burma, Cambodia, Chile, Cuba, Dominican Rep., El Salvador, Greenland, Guam, Guatemala, Honduras Jamaica, Nicaragua,Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Surinam, Trinidad Tobago and other Caribbean countries.

An NTSC and region code=0 DVD can be played back in all countries above.

PAL is used in following countries.....

United Kingdom, Germany, Netherland, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Sweden Norway, Finland, Egypt, Bulgaria, Burundi, Chad, Djibouti, Gabon, Guadeloupe, Guyana(French), Hungary, Israel, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Libya, Madagascar, Malagasy, Martinique, Mauritius, Monaco, Mongolia,Morocco, New Caledonia, Niger, Reunion, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tahiti, Togo, Tunisia, Zaire, India Pakistan, China, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and so on.

A PAL and region code=0 DVD can be played back in all countries above.

The first of all, you will have to select one of those systems to watch a DVD video on you "DVD Player."

What's the REGION CODE ?

REGION CODE 1-7 is the most troublesome for every viewer..... Becuase of Hollywood Movie Makers intended how to sell their movies to the world's markets as many as possible. They don't care about consumers inconveniences.
If one person gives a DVD from U.S.A. to a friend in England after viewing the DVD, the Hollywood will miss to sell one DVD in England. For this reason, those guys have sprited the market in the world for 7 regions. That's the biggining of troublesome for viewers.

If you live in England, you can not borrow a DVD from a friend in U.S.A. You have to buy one to watch it.
This case is a problem of a TV format difference between U.S.A. and England.(not Hollywood's stingry matters)
How about England and Australia?
They use same PAL TV format. If so, a friend can borrow a DVD from a freind in England?
NO! (This is the Hollywood's stingy business)
Both England and Australia use PAL TV format, but the region codes are different. England=2, Australia=4
So, both are not compatible. They have to buy one each other.

How about on PC's (Windows & Mac.) DVD-ROM drive?

Unfortunately, it does not work, if region code is different.
Even PC's DVD-ROM Drive has a region code.

There's one special REGION CODE which is "0"(Zero.)
If you buy a DVD region code=0, you can share the same DVD with your friends in the same TV format countries (such as between England and Australia) shown above.

Thanks to Creative Home Entertainment, they make all DVDs with region code=0.

Needless to say, a CD-ROM has no TV format, no region code, and can be palyed back on only PCs (Windows or Mac.)
DVD-ROM(video) can be played back on both a DVD player and DVD-ROM Drive on a PC.
